Borobudur Park comprises of the Borobudur temple, Prambanan temple and the candi Rato Boko. They are situated far from each other and not in one complex, unlike the Angkor Archaeological Complex. They each have their own entrance fee(s).
Borobudur is a Buddhist temple. Avoid visiting during Waisak (Vesak) if you hate crowd. On Waisak day, there will be a procession from the nearby Candi Mendut to Candi Pawon and finally ending at Borobudur. The best time to visit and explore the temple at your leisure is probably early morning or late evening on weekdays.
An Evening in Borobudur |
As I was staying in Manohara Resort next door, I received complimentary access into Borobudur for 2 days. The first day, right after the sun stopped shining too brightly, I used the garden access into the complex and explored the ground.
Museum Borobudur |
Before dark, I returned to the resort to watch the video presentation on Borobudur. We had the room all to ourselves!
I thought the video was very informative and shouldn't be missed.
Sunrise at Borobudur
Hotel guests who wants to see sunrise need to pay only IDR230000 per person. Normal price IDR380000 (adult foreigner). I was given torchlight, meal voucher (tea/coffee + light snack) and paper badge. Payment charged to room so guests need not worry about carrying cash. Just inform reception that you'd like to join the sunrise tour and ask for the time to gather.
I received wake up call from front desk, checked the sky, got dressed and went to reception area to register and collect the above before being escorted to the park.
